Franklin Study Connection was the recipient of Serve Indiana’s 2015 Award of Excellence for Volunteer Programs. The award was presented at a reception on October 28, 2015 at the Indiana Statehouse. Attending the reception were (from left): Dr. David Clendening, Superintendent Franklin Community Schools; Angie Clendening, Counselor at Webb Elementary and former Study Connection Site Coordinator; Melissa Parramore, Study Connection Director; Judy Tharp, Study Buddy; Robin Betts, Franklin Education Connection Board Member and Study Buddy; Bea Northcott, Executive Director of Franklin Education Connection and Study Buddy; and Brandi Terrell, Franklin Education Connection Board Member and Study Buddy.
Study Connection is celebrating its 10 Year Anniversary and has experienced tremendous success during that time:
- There were 46 Study Buddy/Student matches in the first year. Today, there are more than 100.
- Students who participate in Study Connection show a greater improvement on standardized tests than the general student population.
- Study Buddies and Site Coordinators volunteer more than 3,000 hours per year. The total value of all Study Connection volunteers is $99,822!
- Study Connection has a volunteer retention rate of 82%, compared with a statewide average of 73%.
Serve Indiana is a state agency which promotes and recognizes volunteerism. There were 11 nominees for the award.
